BULGARIA 1968 vs. YUGOSLAVIA 1968

Rugby Union of Serbia, RK Pobednik and RK Partizan organized in Belgrade the Celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the foundation (1954) of the Rugby Union in former Yugoslavia.

Seven a Side Tournament - “Balkan Championships”, the Veteran Tournament and the Game of the former internationals of Bulgaria and Yugoslavia (players of 1968 generation) was on the programme on June 14th at the Sports centre of FK “Rad” at Banjica (Belgrade).

In the morning the promotion of the book “Yugoslav Rugby – The Story of the forgotten Union” took place in the Trophy Hall of SD “Partizan” and the rugby games started in the afternoon with the participation of altogether about 300 players in the different age categories.

The Veteran Tournament started with the game of 1968 generation players of two countries (Bulgaria, Yugoslavia) that had participated at the IX World Festival of Youth and Students in Stara Zagora in July 1968.

This game was the occasion that old rugby friends meet again after almost 46 years and the match of 2 x 10 minutes was “adjusted” to the age of the most of the players...
“Younger” veterans followed with the Pobednik – Mozzart EVRA Tournament with the participation of teams from Pancevo (RC Dinamo –Veterani), Starcevo (RK “Borac”), Zarkovo (Balkan Mosquitos + 35), and Belgrade (“Partizan” RK and Pobednik RK).
The “winners” of the Tournament were mostly young veterans of “Partizan”, the Club that already in 2013 celebrated its 60th anniversary as the oldest one on the territory of former country of Yugoslavia.

The next Pobednik – Mozzart International Veteran Rugby Tournament is on June 13 – 14th 2015.
