VII Marelli Vets
Tournament in Marseille

Traditional Thierri Marelli Trophy went to The Papa Kool’s

VII Marelli Vets Tournament in Marseille - European Sports Capital 2017 . . .

On Saturday April 8th  the 7th Thierri Marelli Trophy took place on a wonderful sunny day.
This was the first time that this traditional Tournament was the part of EVRA European Veteran Rugby series

The Bandar Log vet rugby team from Marseilles welcomed eight other vet teams  at Jean Bouin stadium at the SMUC recreation ground. . . following regional teams took part

  • the Rascasses from Aubagne ( Provence )
  • the Roquet’s from La Roquebrussane ( Provence )
  • the Poulaous from Les Angles ( Provence )
  • the Rougets Bleus from Marseilles ( Provence ), two teams
  • the Papa Kool ‘s from  Fréjus-St Raphaël ( French Riviera)
  • the Ruby Tourists from Grasse ( French Riviera )
  • Los Pastres from St Affrique ( Languedoc )

All vet players enjoyed playing four games in a state of mind that makes our sport so exceptional. The Papa Kool’s , who played a pretty good rugby in a perfect fair play, will keep the Trophy for one year.

Los Pastres got the EVRA  plague because they drove a long way ( more than 300 km ) to join the Tournament. Seventy-years-old Eugene Antoniotti from the Bandar Log was the oldest player of the Tournament.

After the games, all participants gathered around a good meal and talked about past and present Rugby until the Awards ceremony begun  -  a special moment !

At the end, everybody was happy and eager to meet again next year . . .      Opens internal link in current windowback
