RUGBY VETERANS IN THE “TOWN OF ANTIQUES”

Les Farios Veterans and Thierry Dias as the first organisers, were the first members of EVRA from France (L´Isle sur la Sorgue) to join Licor Beirao European Sereis of veteran tournaments.

This small picturesque “Town of Antiques” near Avignon, on the river Sorgue, organizes veteran tournament “Antiques Broques” already nine consecutive years. The right spirit of Rugby with the Fun, Friendship & Family are the “guidelines” for each of the teams and individuals from the very beginning of this sports event. 2014 Tournament with eight teams, divided in to Under- and Over-50 groups, from France (GLR Lyon, VRAC Anemasse, Ans Mélés Valreás, Los Pastres Saint Affrique, Comité Langedouc-Roussillon Perpignan, Happy H´Ours Noves and Les Farios) and Italy, (I Ribollitti, Firenze) was not different.

The strong, dry wind, but with mild temperature was not the obstacle for each player to enjoy playing veteran rugby on soft, grass pitches . . .
The “winners” in the category Over 50 were the Italians – known as “Noli  desinere”, they took for the third time part at this traditional event.
Famous “L ´Isle sur la Sourge Wheel” in category Under 50 was “won” by the veterans of VRAC.
The oldest player of the Tournament was Farios rugby legend Réne Negre (72) that was awarded with EVRA Official rugby jersey.
