TOURNAMENT IN 2012

ISTANBUL OTTOMANS WANT TO ORGANIZE
E.V.R.A. TOURNAMENT IN 2012

With Ottomans RFC happened the same as in many other countries where rugby has not been played and other sports, like soccer, basketball are dominated.
This time the "Rugby Ambassadors“ were Marc Mercier, Dennis Ponds de Vier and Chris Skirrow who started in 1999 to write rugby history in Turkey. They founded The Ottomans RFC as multinational rugby club where the players from New Zealand, Australia, England, France to Russia, Spain, Netherlands Japan, Sri Lanka had, or still are playing. The Ottomans foundation in Istanbul inspired the others and teams Kadiköy RC, Bakirköy RC, Cyprus Pumas started to play rugby . . .

The season 2007/2008 was the start of Turkish national competition.
Until that time the Ottomans were visiting neighbouring countries representing Turkey played XV a Side, as well as Seven a Side games.

In 2010 the Ottomans organised for the first time very successfully International Sevens Tournament, that will have its second edition this May (14 - 16th).

At the beginning of this year The    Ottomans joined E.V.R.A. as the first Turkish club ever with the veteran side and have decided to promote our sport also on that level. Ottoman Veterans are considering to take part at the first EVRA European Festival in Cascais (Portugal) this September to be able to "gather the experience“ they will use when organising  their Veteran Tournament in 2012 as the part of well known Sevens Event.
Tournament details will be discussed this May during the visit of EVRA Secretary Marko Protega to Istanbul.
