Bad weather conditions could not spoiled the “commitment and the attitude” of Italian veterans from Ferarra, Rovigo, Modena, Verona, Reggio Emilia and Sicilia that took part at this traditional tournament.
With a lot of “enthusiasm and fairness” the games had been played, refereed by Stefano Pedezzi (Gussago) and Fedrico Nugnes (Brescia), on three natural grass rugby pitches of Centro Sportivo Italiano, where the local club has a nice clubhouse.
I Senatori Virgiliani organisers team, headed by Alessandro Gobbi, made once again “an event to be remembered”, especially the Third halftime with typical Mantovana food, wine and a lot of fun and entertainment for everybody.
EVRA representative, Marko Protega took this opportunity to welcome all teams and to inform about future activities of this European organisation (European Series 2014 and European Festival in England during RWC 2015).
Senatori Virgiliani veterans had been awarded with EVRA 2013 plaque, while “Alessandro – the Hooker” received special Licor Beirao present. It is interesting to mention that Senatori Virgiliani team is the only one that has two veteran tournaments in a year – Salmela Torneo in the springtime and “Salami, Salumi e . . . Palla ovale” in the Autumn.
The whole benefit of Manotva tournament is going to be used to support Batista Berra, the former Club player that became paralysed after the serious neck injury when playing rugby fourteen years ago. Batista still remained in Rugby, he is today Senatori Virgiliani Old Rugby Vice-President.
