Welsh Students in Heidelberg

Led by rugby veterans Stanley Addicott (Swansea), Michael J. Wall (Cardiff) and Adrian Evans, Welsh Rugby UnionPartnership Manager the Student National Team of Wales spent cold and snowy February weekend in Heidelberg (Germany).

They “tested” the full German National Team and won
with 35 : 17 (13:17).

The usual “Third halftime” both teams and their managers spent in the famous Heidelberg restaurant “Zum Spreisel” owned by veteran rugby playerand EVRA member Peter Ueberle.

Welsh students take the opportunity to visit Heidelberg Castle (see photo) quided by Welshman Martin Griffits  who found his “second home” in thispicturesque town on the river Neckar.

Stanley and Michael got the invitation to bring their veteran teams to the Heidelberg Oldies Frühling 2014 –  a traditional International VeteranTournament of all fiveTown clubs.

It will be after 20 years that Swansea Oldies visit and play in Heidelberg, the last time it was in 1994 at the  2nd European Veteran Festival organised successfully by Rugby Union Baden – Württemberg.

At that European event Swansea had the Oldest Festival Player at the field – 86 year old Harry Payne, well known Welsh International that was the player of Club and National team that had beaten for the first time ever the invincible All Blacks in 1935  . . .
