The Anniversary of this first Old Rugby Club at Sicily is in fact the story about the Veteran Rugby in South Italy. The Club was founded in 1980, followed by several others what led, now a days, that Italy is Nr. 1 European country, with the most number of Old Rugby Torneos . . .
At the begining Old Rugby Messina had played just a few matches vs. Milazzo Rugby, a third division club, near Messina. Further matches were vs. local junior (U19) team, at the St.Stefano on December 26th every year, the Event that lasts till today . . .
As the number of the Veterans grew, they had been "divided" into Oldies North and Oldies South, of the Town . . .
Finally in 1995 Messina Veterans (O.R.M. 1980) have been invited to play the match vs. OLD COSENZA in Calabria . . .
In the early 2000s OLD CUS CATANIA had been founded , as the second old rugby club in Sicily. Already with "grey hairs"the veterans of these two clubs organized first ever Old Rugby match in Sicily.
At Santa Maria Goretti Stadium in Catania the game ended with the result 7 : 12.
The "older brother" had won . . .
