Rugby friendship flies high . . .

Rugby friendship flies high as this ball did over the Biokovo mountain at the recent Veteran Tournament held in Makarska (Croatia). This first ever Event, as the part of EVRA European Veteran Rugby Series, had been the great success thanks to the voluntarely engagement of local Club and the needed support from the Croatian veterans from Zagreb, Sisak, Sinj and Split.

"Makarska rugby history" started in spring 1968 when two young engineers and sportsmen Sinisa Tartaglia and Tomo Curavic came to work for Metalplastika factory. After the short time rugby club under the same name had been founded and the talented youngsters from whole Makarska Rivijera joined the founders.

Only several years of hard work passed . . . and the first success came. In 1974 the Club, that in the meantime changed the name to "Energoinvest", was vice-champion of the 1st Rugby Division in former Yugoslavia (see enclosed Team photo). After one year, in 1975 "Energoinvest" achieved the first international success - Club won "Adriatic Cup" - competition of rugby teams from "both sides of the Adriatic sea". Years to follow established the Club in the "first division" of Yugoslav Championships.

In Croatian rugby after 1995  the Club, now as "Makarska Rivijera" RC, kept the quality tradition and is one of the top teams in Croatian 1st Division.

Many generations of players passed (came and left . . .) the Club in the last 48 years and to "keep" the members also after they stopped playing brought not too much success . . . forming the Veteran team and organising the first Veteran tournament in 2016,  the Club leaders decided to go "new way" in their development.
