13th MILANO RUGBY FESTIVAL


Once again succeeded The Coyotes Old Rugby Club ( Cernusco sul Naviglio) with the organiser Federicco Riccardi Sirtori and more than 200 helpers to master this big Rugby festival with alltogether 71 teams (Sevens Men & Women), 15 of them were the participants of  the Veteran Tournament that was again the part of EVRA  European Series.

This year teams came from "all over" - England, France, Georgia, Romania, Spain and of course Italy.

Festival started on June 9th with the "test" games (Seven a Side) for three "Golden Oldies Ladies" teams. Hosts of Cernusco s/N was composed mostly of the mothers, whose sons are playing for children teams in this small town, near Milano.

At the Veteran Tournament took part: Shrewsbury RUFC (England), Tyrosse Vets (France) - Under 49 and Over 50, Rechini Vets - Farul Constanza (Romania), Toast d ´Acqui (Spain) and from Italy - Old Babbyons, Aosta Vets, Mil´old Vets Pavia, B.old Cologno, Velate Old Rugby, Chicken Rozzano Vets, Old Rugby Lecco, ASR Mucche Pazze, Old Lovers and The Coyotes.

Festival itself took place at the three grass pitches of the Town Sports Centre in Cernusco sul Naviglio (MI). "Each Day Party" at the end of every playing day gathered (again) more than 6.000 visitors, mostly young people . . . coming from the vairous directions to this "big Rugby Party" in Cernusco.

As usual at EVRA Licor Beirao European Veteran Rugby Series special prizes had been given to The Oldest Tournament Player and to the Organisers The Coyotes. EVRA Secretary Marko Protega  awarded Roberto Mariani (73) from Chicken Rozzano RC, where he started and played Rugby since 1956 . . . . and the Cernusco s/N Rugby Club President Franco Viterbi.

Receiving EVRA EU Series special plague Roberto said: "I was never so happy in my whole sport life as now getting this Award . . . thank you all."
