THE FIRST STEP
TOWARDS TRADITION

 

 

It was the springtime 1968 as two young engineers Sinisa Tartaglia and Tomo Curavic came from Ljubljana (Slovenia) to Makarska to work . . . and founded the first rugby club - "Metalplastika" at this well known tourist riviera at the Adriatic sea. Later Club changed the name to "Energoinvest" and today as RC "Makarska Rivijera", 48 years old,  are in the "right shape and condition" for the real rugby club.

At the initiative of E V R A Club veterans, headed by Drago Lulic and Neven Mracevic, Makarska vets organised last weekend the first ever Veteran Tournament. as the part of European Series 2016 and officially joined European Veteran Rugby Association.
More than 30 veterans Over 50, apart from those "younger" ones, gathered "on- and off- the pitch" for this occasion.

The players from the first generations like Borut Kurtovic (former Coach and Team Captain, that came especially from Israel to take part), Slobodan Kostanic and Ivan Kelviser, Zdenko Roso (all three former internationals), Tonci Sabic, Zeljko Babic, Danijel Simic, Zeljko Mucic, Ivica Mrksa, Ivica Mracevic, Mate Rakusic, Neven Grubisic, Ante Pribisalic, Slobodan Puharic, Ante Beros, Mijo Lulic, Veselko Simic, together with the veterans from Zagreb, Sisak, Sinj, Split enjoyed the sunny saturday afternoon under the feet of impressive Biokovo Mountain. Games had been played at the perfect grass pitch of the Town Sports Centre, well guided by the referees Lovreta Jaksa (Makarska) and Sulejman Sabanovic (Zenica,  Bosnia & Hercegovina).
