THE RHINOS - READING
RC VETS TOURED DALMATIA

THE RHINOS - READING RC VETS TOURED DALMATIA . . .

Reading RC (England) vets were hosted in May by RC Makarska Rivijera Old boys enjoying the final days of their 2017 Dalmatia tour. Reading RC (est. 1898) formed the veteran team RHINOS in 1986 by Graham Lyke, as a means to allow former first team players to continue playing with their peers.

Although those players have long since hung up their boots, many are still regular supporters of something that has lasted over thirty years and has become a unique rugby family.
Whereas that original side were restricted to playing friendly fixtures, today’s side competes in an open league, often against teams with players over thirty years their junior. In the last six years they have won two league titles and were runners-up in the other four; whilst they have also claimed three Berkshire Vets Cup wins and been runners-up on three occasions.

From the very start touring has been the highlight of the year, so much so that founder Graham Lyke and fellow original Stu Spindler are still touring today. They have visited fifteen countries including Ireland five times, four trips to France and Spain, and three to Italy, and most recently Croatia. They have met fellow EVRA members; RC Makarska Rivijera Veterans, Old Boys Hungary, Ostrava Old Boys and Rugby Club Zlin Moravian Eagles Old Boys.  RC Reading joined this year European Veteran Rugby Association wih the intention to contribute to the old boys activities in Europe.

The Rhinos pride themselves on their hospitality, and every side visiting Holme Park are sure of a warm welcome and a wonderful after match experience.
